    Thank you. Great video. The situation that is annoying though, is right when the bearing starts to go bad, so it sometimes makes such symptoms, but not all the time. When my right front bearing was going out, it made that growling noise ONLY when I was turning left in traffic circle at speeds. When I was traveling in the straight, it did not make that noise. Reacted to the 3-9 / 12-6 push-pull test. Movement was barely maybe 1-degree, but it moved. Spinning the wheel while up on jackstand? Again no growling. In any case, after that bearing change, no more growling noise when turning left in traffic circle. Fast forward 2 years later. Now I suspect the rear right bearing is starting to go. 1 time out of 10, when turning left in traffic circle, I hear the growling noise. Not reproducible every time. Just roughly once in 10 attempts. Does not react at all to the 3-9/12-6 push/pull test. Drives me nuts…

    2014 Nissan Titan Pro 4x. Not much play or sound when off the ground. Lots of grinding and bumping over something at 10 miles an hour. Too loud and rough to go faster. It started with a very small sound in 40 miles to needing to be towed. Sound is reduced with acceleration mildly and when braking as long as not extreme with either. Could it be the cv joint?

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 11 годин тому

      Hard to tell through a message but it could be a CV axle. With the vehicle safely jacked up, grab the CV axle shaft and try turning it back and forth. Should be no play in the axle when turning/changing directions. Check all CV axles. Hope that helps.

      Awesome, glad you enjoyed the video! If you have a seized caliper, you're going to have to replace it and if the other caliper is the same age and looks rough, I would change both. You'll have to bleed your brakes after too and I have a great video on that coming soon too. My car squeaks when I turn my wheel all the way to the right. Would it be wheel bearings? Changed tie rod ends and stabilizer link bars front and rear, bushings looked sliced open 😬 I’m going to try this rn!!!

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 2 дні тому

      It squeaks only when you hard turn right? Does it constantly squeak at full turns or only when you are turning the wheels ( at a stand still)? It's hard to diagnose properly through a message but it could be CV axle joint. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

    Most vehicles I’ve had used different brakes (drums often) for the parking brake as compared to the rear service brakes. So, the parking brake test won’t tell you much with those vehicles.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 2 дні тому

      Yeah some cars have internal parking drum brakes and rear disk brakes but not every vehicle. Another thing to think about is the front brakes do 90% of the braking so usually they are the ones that are warped. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

    It's a shame that drum brakes aren't more common. If you like to keep your wheels clean and shiny, drums make it easy. Also they are themselves much cleaner and drier than calipers and discs. That said, I haven't seen a set of front drums in ages, only rears. Maybe they get really gross.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 7 днів тому

      Yeah they grab really well but suffer from brake fade on long descents and come out of adjustment from left to right on the front which causes wicked pulls to the side.....ask me how I know. Lol. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Cheers!

      @@wayofthewrench I’ve heard of fade being an issue but not uneven grip. That sounds like a great way to roll a car or truck. I guess I’d rather have the brake dust problem!

    So I had a guy tell me the rear bearings in my wife's rogue 2019 front wheel drive are bad, when I took it in for rear brakes. The pads were gone, and it was grinding. He says he turned the rotors, but the same sound is still being heard, after he changed the brakes. Thing is, you can hear this sound, immediately, not speed dependent. And it definitely sounds like grinding. If he turned the rotors, shouldn't the sound be gone because its smooth now? It doesn't get louder as you go faster, it feels harder though, hard to describe.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 6 днів тому

      Hard to tell from a message but it sounds like you either have really bad bearings or something is not right with your brakes. I would jack it up and check yourself. I have another great video on how to check your disk brakes . Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

      @@wayofthewrench one other thing I ran into was my drum would not fit over the new brake shoes. My first thought was I got the wrong shoes but that was not it. What I ended up doing was to open the brake fluid valve to allow air in and less pressure. This allowed me to pull the shoes together and the drum fit. Of course then the dreaded bleeding. All ended up well.

    Does both wheels have to be off the ground to check one side or does the side your checking only need to be off the ground ?

    • @wayofthewrench

    Hi, please could you tell me why it wasn’t necessary to bleed the clutch system on this one after replacement. Or is it because the slave cylinder was outside the bell housing? Thanks.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 7 днів тому

      It wasn't needed because the slave cylinder was unbolted but the hydraulic system was not touched/opened. It does state to replace the slave cylinder during the clutch replacement but it is an easy enough part to change after if it's needed. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

    I've been wrenching for almost 40 years as a hobby, but got some good ideas here: turning the axle nut backwards to hammer (instead of using soft-face hammer), the blocking of the flywheel using the pin (instead of making a device), and the closed end wrench as lever extension on the ratchet (instead of getting out the breaker bar). Interesting...

    While candle wax will work some penetrating oils (seafoam deep creep comes to mind) do very well with heat and suck in a lot easier. I was doing the brakes on my 07 mustang and the slide pins were frozen in and mapp gas and seafoam got them moving. Still needed new ones of course but wax didn't even give a hint of going in. Saved me from having to buy a new caliper bracket.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 7 днів тому

      Yeah it's about the same, just be careful not to start a fire spraying penetrating oils. Sometimes just the heat is all you need, the lube just prevents galling on the way out. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

    How to tell the difference between primary brake shoes and the secondary. Is there another way to check the clearance if we don’t have a caliper?

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench 9 днів тому

      I have a longer diy drum brake video which is way more detailed, you should check it out. As for setting clearance on the drum, you can tell by the friction it takes to slide on the drum. It should just slide on so set it till it won't go on and then adjust about 1mm smaller once it just starts to go on but tight. It is easier with a drum caliper though.
